History of Boss’s Day
Ever wonder how
National Boss’s day got started? Was it some boss who felt like
he wasn’t getting enough appreciation every day? Actually the
history of bosses’ day is quite recent. Bosses’ day came about
over 40 years ago; in 1958 in Illinois. History say a secretary
by the name of Patricia Bays Haroski was the first person to want
to honor her boss.
You might think
that Ms. Haroski was perhaps looking for a raise or promotion by
starting the first annual bosses day. No, it was because she was
very attached to her boss – he was her father! She chose the day
October 16th because that was her father’s birthday.
She promoted the idea and eventually it grew in popularity.
Although it is
not an official holiday, bosses day is a great opportunity to
tell your boss that he or she is doing a great job and you
appreciate them! A simple card or very small gift is
appropriate, better yet, gather a few coworkers and take your
boss out for lunch on October 16th. Who knows,
perhaps you will be the one that gets the raise or
promotion!
